It’s all part of the new Dubai Marine Transport Master Plan which has set a target of 22 million passengers by 2030.
Another day, another example of Dubai’s famous ‘can-do’ spirit with news of the ambitious Dubai Marine Transport Master Plan that will see a host of upgrades to water transport in the city – including the world’s first 3D-printed electric abras (traditional regional boats), according to local media reports.
Designed to carry 20 passengers, the futuristic boats will feature a modern design that still has the heritage feel of the original abras. This exciting project comes as part of the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy and is expected to slash abra manufacturing time by 90%.
Officially launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, the Dubai Marine Transport Master Plan also includes a 188% expansion of the marine transport network, a 400% increase in passenger lines – and a 51% increase in the number of marine transport users, from 14.7 million each year to a whopping 22 million by 2030.
At the same time, the number of marine transport stations will increase from 48 to 79 along the Dubai Creek, Dubai Water Canal, the coastline of the Arabian Gulf and various waterfront projects.
This huge commitment to expanding and improving Dubai’s water transport network is naturally all good news for real estate investors, property buyers, and of course residents as the emirate’s connectivity goes from strength to strength.
Good news too for the millions of soon arriving tourists who can enjoy a unique view of Dubai from the water as they explore the coastline.
