NEWS: Major upgrade to Dubai's gridlocked Hessa Street well under way

Relief on the horizon for daily commuters as Dh689 million roadworks project makes impressive progress.

It was earlier this year when Dubai drivers got confirmation of a major upgrade to the 4.5 km stretch of the Hessa Street corridor between the Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) and Al Khail Road (E44) to reduce travel time for bumper-to-bumper commuters.

The huge improvement will cost around Dh689 million.

And from the looks of things, work is progressing nicely, as seen by a pic sent to us yesterday morning by an eagle-eyed resident en route to work.

The upgrade comes in response to the directive issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, to keep the city’s road infrastructure in pace with the emirate’s other development.

Work will be carried out by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which will be revamping the four main intersections – Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road.

Detailed completion timelines are yet to be released but His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA did say that the population of areas served by the project is expected to reach more than 640,000 people by 2030.
